Jeff and Athena meet Aary!

While in Toronto for the screening of Mixed Match at the Toronto Reel Asian Int’l Film Festival, Athena and I were able to meet up with focus patient Aary and his family for lunch. Athena had been in touch with Aary’s mother Jenny and she was able to come out to our screening at the Reel Asian on November 15th. At the screening we made a date to meet up for lunch so we could all met with Aary. Needless to say, Aary is an amazing kid and he deserves to find a match.

Here’s more about his story:

Aaryan is a sweet, natured, and loving 11-year-old. He loves to play baseball and video games in his leisure time. Aary never fails to display his caring nature and compassion to those around him. He is a beloved son, a cherished grandchild, a wonderful nephew and an amazing cousin. Aary truly is a remarkable young boy! Recently, Aaryan has been diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia.

Aplastic anemia is a condition that occurs when your body stops producing enough new blood cells. The disorder leaves you feeling fatigued and with a higher risk of infections and uncontrolled bleeding. A rare and serious condition, aplastic anemia can develop at any age. Aplastic anemia may occur suddenly, or it can occur slowly and worsen over a long period of time. Treatment for aplastic anemia may include medications, blood transfusions and/or a stem cell / bone marrow transplant.

As Aary is an only child, so with no other sibling, his best chance in finding a donor that matches is directly correlated with the amount of people who register to get tested.

Together, we can help in securing a bone marrow donor for Aaryan!
